FAQs

Is the displayed frame rate reduced when multiple video windows are displayed simultaneously?

No. You can display multiple video windows and the source frame rate is kept the same. For PAL /SECAM sources the frame rate is 25fps per input / per window and for NTSC sources the frame rate is 30 fps per input / per window.

Can I stretch and position any source window across a group of monitors?

Yes. You can resize and position any source window across any number of available displays.

Can I display Picture in Picture (PiP) / Picture over Picture (PoP)?

Yes, you can overlap or place any source window as required.

How many custom layouts can I create or recall with the X-View Wall Control Application?

There is virtually no limit to the number of layouts that can be created or recalled. Typically each layout file is only a few Kb in size, so depending upon the available storage space on the hard disk, thousands of files can be stored or recalled.

Can I display a scrolling list of layouts and set a display time for each layout?

Yes, you can easily display a list of layout files and set a delay for each layout to be shown. To do this you need to have previously created all your custom layouts, the layouts need to be stored in a local folder on the X-View DPX systems hard drive. You then need to create a batch file, which lists in order the files that you wish to show. You will also need the "SLEEP" application, available from e-mediavision which allows you to set a delay time. For detailed instructions please contact technical support.

If I have multiple users, do I need a license for each user?

No. Wall control application is licensed per system frame, not per user. So you can have multiple users controlling a system without requiring a license key for each user.

Can I install the new X-View DPX-E modules in an older X-View DPX frame?

No. The physical module interface is not compatible between the new DPX-E and older DPX frames. The DPX-E requires PCIe Slots, the older DPX requires PCI or PCI-X slots, PCIe is not compatible with PCI or PCI-X as they are both electrically and physically two different types.

What is the difference between the X-View Multiviewer and other devices called Multiplexers?

The X-View Multi-image display processors are high specification systems that display source inputs in real time at source frame rates, regardless of how many source windows are displayed at any one time. Multiplexers are low cost / specification devices which normally reduce both resolution and frame rates when displaying multiple sources. So typically, with a multiplexer you may only see between 2 to 12 frames per window when displaying multiple sources.

Can I control the X-View DPX-E from AMX or Crestron A/V Controllers?

Yes. The X-View processor can be controlled from AMX or Crestron or other third party controllers via RS232 interface. Please note that RS232 control should be requested at time of order. Since most control systems are now using TCP/IP based control, the RS232 interface is not normally installed by default, but can be installed FOC if requested at time of placing order.

How can I display HD/SD –SDI broadcast format sources?

You can use third party converters that provide YPbPr (Component) outputs and using the XV-RGB-E2 input module with the YUV adaptor you can display HD or SD format signals. If the SD or HD SDI signal is interlaced, then we recommend using component converters. If using HD-SDI Progressive format signals then other converters which provide DVI outputs can also be used with the XV-RGB-E2 input module.

Can I display HDMI source signals?

Yes you can, providing the HDMI source is not encrypted with HDCP, You can connect HDMI to HDMI using the XV-RGB-E2 input module with the DVI-HDMI adaptor. The input module does NOT support HDCP, therefore if you connect say a Blue Ray Player or STB (Set top box) using the HDMI interface and where the content is encrypted with HDCP, then you will not be able to display this source, in which case you will need to connect via component outputs to the input module.

How can I display IP sources?

This is a complex subject and requires additional information about each application, we suggest that you contact us with your particular requirement and we will advise what would be the best method. In short, there are two main stream applications for displaying IP based Video sources, there is a broadcast application and there is CCTV based application. For CCTV based IP streams, you could install the equipment manufacturers software application onto the X-View DPX-E and use that to decode the IP camera streams directly, however this is a trial and error method, since we would need to ensure that the available CPU resources within the X-View are not saturated so that they cause operational problems with the main system requirements of the X-View. A better solution is to use external PC's to run and decode the IP streams, the output from these decoding PC's VGA/DVI can then be fed into the X-View (See Wall Control for CCTV/IP for further information). For Broadcast applications, it is more cost effective to deploy STB's as decoders and feed the output from these into the X-View.

I lost my USB License key for Wall Control, can I obtain a replacement?

Lost or damaged USB license keys can be replaced by purchasing a new key, lost unit cannot be replaced for free.

Wall Control won't allow me to save layouts

Please ensure that you have your USB licence key installed and reboot the system. If a valid key is not detected you will not be able to save layouts or control the system via network control
